Red Hen is the flagship gin for Small Batch Distilling; a band of brothers who rattled to school together each day on ‘Red Hen’ railcars that once serviced metropolitan Adelaide. With the recent explosion of up and coming distilleries, competition is fierce and friendly in the world of craft gin, so our goal was to arrive at a highly-visible label to stand out amongst the crowd.
Brand Identity, Packaging, Print Collateral
The result is a brash yet elegant aesthetic paying homage to the railway memorabilia of times gone by. The original Red Hens were identified by 3 or 4 digit codes on their carriages, which we used as inspiration for the bottle and batch numbers that appear on the neck labels.

Small Batch Distilling put Red Hen back on track by taking gold in Best Small Batch Gin Awards in 2017. The accompanying Red Hen materials also resurrect the past, with tasting notes and printed items reminiscent of retro timetables and railway signage.
